Biking has always been a man’s way of finding fun and frolic and it is only recently that women too have taken on this pleasure. Keeping this in mind, getting hold of a good bike for women is not yet easy. Physical attributes of a woman is very much different from that of a man. Hence movement of her body parts is also quite important. A woman’s bike is very different and has separate specifications than that of a man’s. Certain such specifications given by a coveted bicycle company are as follows:

  1. Specific bike size for women: Due to the physical differences between men and women, it is very necessary to understand that women should search for women-specific bikes which are easy and comfortable to ride on. The size should be such that women bikers can adjust it to their physique and comfortable handling of the bike.
  2. Keep in mind physiology of the sexes: Placing of the saddle is an important factor while choosing a bicycle. Because the hip bones of females are wider than that of males, thus the saddle required on a woman’s bike is wider than that of a man’s bike. An average of 155mm to 175mm is the ideal to look out for.
  3. Step through frames an advantage: The riding position on these step through frames is upright and it is easy to reach the handlebars. The way the bike is framed helps the rider maintain an upright position throughout. Another is Mixte frame whereby some problems like toe overlapping might crop up. But a larger wheel base can help reduce the problem.
  4. Choice of unisex road bikes: While in some cases these bikes prove to be good choices for both the sexes, yet there are areas where they lack in. it is always good to invest on a bike that is tailored keeping in mind the female physique whereby the bike frame is positioned in such a manner that can accommodate all the changes that are obvious in men and women. The seat tube angle is an important element here. While for men the tube angle is from 720 to 750 , for women it is best at 700 to 730. Also, the pedal position has to be decided appropriately for optimum knee usage.

So when you go to purchase a bike for you, keep the above considerations in mind.
